A couple of days ago I received a phone call from my small hometown. A call that would weigh heavy on my heart. As a child you don’t expect tomorrow to be the end. For one of the most amazing teachers and mentors that I have ever had, that day, her sweet God-Fearing daughter was taken away to live eternity in the comfort of Heaven.
When you live in a small community, you make friends with everyone! I mean everyone! The town that I grew up in is just that way. We have a total of about 3 stop lights and 1 blinking light in our whole town. I graduated with 48 people in my senior class. We were all close, very close. That includes our relationships with our teachers. One teacher in particular is very active in our school and the community. We all knew she was a Mom with 3 children varying in ages. She is also an inspiration to us all. She is a breast-cancer survivor, an incredible teacher, FCCLA sponsor (at least she was when I was in school.), and active in her local church. In everything she does, she radiates the love of Christ. She is the most amazing Mom, wife, teacher, and community leader I have ever known.
This is why I write this. As my love for her and the things she has done in my life and the other lives’ around me, I feel that she deserves to know how much her community loves her and supports her during this time of loss.
God is amazing. As a mother I couldn’t imagine the hurt and the anguish I would feel if I lost one of my own children. The Bible says, “For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this tent we groan, longing to put our heavenly dwelling, if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened–not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.” 2 Corinthians 5:1-21. Our God gives us Heaven. It’s our personal gift and our home if we except him into our lives’, and believe in him and the love he has for us.
My teacher had a daughter named Rachel. Rachel was a Christian and didn’t care if anyone knew! She stood for what she believed and she believed with all her heart. God send this angel into the world to bring peace in the hearts of those that she touched through her life here on Earth, and there is no doubt in my mind that she is singing praises to the almighty King in Heaven. For this young girl, lived a full life here on Earth because she believed and followed in the direction of Jesus and her parents who follow Him. She is now an angel to the angel who touched my life.
I am blessed to have known this family my whole life. I am blessed to know that my hometown community is filled with people just like her. I am blessed that an Angel in my life will forever have her own.
I love you, Teacher, and thanks!
Thank you, God! You are amazing, and I thank you for the comfort you are and will bring to this family.
